Former Disney Channel star Laura Marano just set the record straight about her Austin & Ally character, Ally. After a tweet went viral claiming that the fictional teen, along with some other Disney Channel characters, was “most definitely homophobic.” After she saw the post, the 24-year-old responded and said that Ally was “definitely” an LGBTQ+ ally.
“Ally is definitely an ally!!!! It’s literally in her name!!!! Also, she had to be an ally because Austin and Dez definitely had a romantic relationship,” the actress wrote on Twitter referring to a popular fan theory about two of the show’s main characters.
Naturally, fans of the show were quick see the controversial tweet and many stood up for the character.
“How dare them to say something like that about Ally,” one fan responded. Laura wrote back and said, “I KNOW.”
Someone else wrote, “SHE IS SO KIND AND SHE UNDERSTANDS EVERYTHING THAT BREATHES SHE CANNOT BE HOMOPHOBIC”
None of the other past Disney Channel stars listed have yet to the respond to the viral tweet about their characters.
As fans know, this came just after Laura chatted exclusively with J-14 at the American Heart Association Red Dress event on February 7, 2020 and opened up about her relationship with her former Austin & Ally costars. As it turned out, they’re all pretty close and want to reunite sometime soon!
“I saw Ross [Lynch] pretty recently, it was at Kiernan [Shipka’s] birthday party,” she said. “I’ve seen [the whole cast of Austin & Ally] individually, but I haven’t seen everyone all together in a while. We’ve been trying so, so hard to reunite but it’s tough with everyone’s schedules.”
