Laura Marano will forever be loved by Disney Channel fans thanks to her role as Ally Dawson on the series, Austin & Ally. She and co-star Ross Lynch seriously had perfect chemistry and even with their Trish and Dez, Raini Rodriguez and Calum Worthy, the four main friends on the show had a bond unlike any other. They always brought the laughs with all their wild antics too! So it comes as a bit of a surprise when Laura admitted that there were plenty of times fans on set didn’t actually think the cast was all that funny. Ouch.
While appearing on The Zach Sang Show, the 22-year-old starlet was explaining how she really is always trying to make people around her laugh, no matter what. And having this need stems from the fact that she’s been in the acting industry for 18 years now. But there were times when she had moments of self-doubt and that crept on her a few times when she happened to be filming Austin & Ally, thanks to the fact that the live studio audience didn’t always think she and her co-stars were, well, funny. Like at all.
“I’ve been in the acting industry since I’ve been five, which the acting industry is literally only about validation from other people. Sometimes [though] on Austin & Ally when we would film scenes that were front of a live audience, literally nobody would laugh! And we would have to pause for laughs because they would add a laugh track after those specific scenes,” Laura said. “And we were like, we feel so not talented and so not funny at all. Even the writers who wrote the jokes are not laughing!”
Okay, can we just let this sink in for a moment? Imagine being in the audience while an episode of the show was being filmed right in front of you and you didn’t think it was funny? Talk about an awkward moment!
But hey, we’re sure this didn’t happen all the time and those who are true Austin & Ally fans know just how special this show was and always will be. And they really did bring the laughs! But now we know this hidden show secret and life will never be the same.
