During the a brand new episode of her YouTube docuseries, The Secret Life Of Lele Pons — which premiered on Monday, May 26 — Lele Pons opened up about her dads sexuality, and revealed that he’s gay. Throughout the 30-minute video, the 23-year-old spoke out about how his sexuality has impacted their relationship, and she even recalled the moment she figured out that he was gay.
“It was hard for me at first. It was hard because I was repeating him saying he was gay until it sounded right in my head,” she explained. “So, what happened was that I openly said he was gay — in my Catholic school. Impulsivity is a huge part of OCD. And when I found that my dad was gay, I said it during a presentation in my class. And everybody was, like: ‘This has nothing to do with what’s going on.'”
As fans know, in the docuseries’ debut episode, the social media sensation shared her mental health struggles and “severe” OCD, Tourette syndrome, depression and ADHD diagnoses. The songstress also referred to her ODC as her “deepest, darkest secret” and, at the time, revealed she wasn’t ready to publicly share her fight with the disorder. Now, Lele is not “ashamed and embarrassed” by it. According to the Mayo Clinic, OCD “features a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviors (compulsions).”
When talking about her dad, Lele remembered the moment she really understood what him being gay meant.
“I came to his room and I saw him actually, like, sleeping with a man. And I was, like, 10 years old, and that for me was, like: ‘Oh, my God, I can’t believe it. Like, I saw… my dad.’ And that was very traumatizing, because I didn’t have to see that so vividly,” she remembered.
Although their relationship was difficult for some time, now, his sexuality has helped them grow “so close.”
