Like many other actors in the industry, Lili Reinhart is an open book with her fans. She’s never shied away from discussing important topics on social media with her followers, and the latest tweets from the actress are no different.

The Riverdale star took to Twitter over the weekend to share that a year ago to the day, she was battling with depression. What ultimately played a huge role in helping her cope with the issue was landing the role of Betty Cooper on the hit CW series.

Lili began telling her story with fans by tweeting out, “Exactly one year ago today, we found out that Riverdale was getting picked up for an entire season. I remember how I felt when I found out.”

“I cried tears of joy. In that moment I became a working actress with a steady job. Something I had been working towards for 7 years,” she continued to write.

“Riverdale came into my life when I was going through the worst depression I had ever experienced. And in the end it completely saved me,” Lili wrote in another tweet.

Although she was able to find success and happiness, the actress continued to explain to fans that she still has her moments of self-doubt, and her battle is far from over. She continued to write, “And when I'm feeling depressed or sad, I remind myself how far I've come. And how I didn't let my depression consume me.”

Lili continued to encourage any of her fans and followers to not give up on themselves, and even replied at a few lucky fans with some very sweet words of encouragement.

Despite trying to send out some positivity to her fans, as things are in the world today – Lili’s words were also met with negativity; but she did not let that get her down.

She wrote to those who were unhappy with what she had to say, “And if people want to twist my words around or say that I'm an idiot or have bad intentions, then okay. Fine. But I'm not going to keep my mouth shut about mental health because some people are looking to be mad about something.”

We applaud the way Lili has handled this all, and the words of encouragement she sent to fans by sharing her personal story.
