Who else was totally obsessed with Malibu Rescue? The feel-good summer film hit screens back in May and the television show premiered in June. Since then it has become a total fan favorite. Get ready for more lifeguards because Netflix just announced that they’re making a sequel to the movie called, The Next Wave, and there’s no doubt it’s going to be amazing.

From the looks of it, no one has to worry because Breanna Yde, Ricardo HurtadoAbby DonnellyAlkoya Brunson and Jackie R. Jacobson are all confirmed to return for the sequel. This amazing news first broke on Wednesday, November 6 when Ricardo took to his Instagram and posted a cast photo along with the caption, “It’s official! [Malibu Rescue 2 The Next Wave] coming soon. Are you ready?”

Before Malibu Rescue was released, J-14 caught up with Jackie and she dished on working with the cast. She revealed that they’re just like family, so there’s no doubt that some epic behind-the-scenes content will be posted on social media once they start filming.

“I think the best way to describe us is family. We have all instantly bonded together, literally and figuratively,” she said in the exclusive interview. “It was freezing at the beach every day and all of us would always huddle together with an abundance of blankets to keep us warm. We also love hanging outside of set — weather we are going to dinner or Six Flags, it’s nice to get a break and be ourselves outside of set.”

For those who missed it, the first film followed a group of misfit lifeguards from the Valley — Tyler, Lizzie, Eric, Gina and Dylan — as they set out to prove that they belong in the Malibu Junior Rescue Program. They worked hard to compete against the snobby kids of Malibu for bragging rights and the ultimate tower on the beach.

Unfortunately no release date was shared for the second movie just yet, but hopefully more details are released soon.
