Although he attended the star-studded event with his girlfriend, Gigi Hadid, back in 2016, the former One Direction singer made it pretty clear that he wasn’t a fan.

“I did go, but I didn’t go there to be like, ‘Yo, take me serious.’ I was taking the piss! I went there as my favorite Mortal Kombat character, Jax,” he told GQ Magazine about his experience at the Met Gala. “The Met Gala is not necessarily anything that I ever knew about or was about. But my [former] stylist…would say to me, ‘This is really good for you to do.’ And no matter how strong you are mentally, you can always be swayed to do certain things. Now, it’s not something I would go to. I’d rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet.… To do the self-indulgent ‘Look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”

Ouch! We guess it’s safe to assume that we won’t be seeing Zayn at the Met Gala any time soon!

Demi Lovato

While speaking with Billboard in 2018, Demi called the Met Gala a “terrible experience.” She attended back in 2016, but like Zayn, she didn’t have the best time.

“This one celebrity was a complete b—h and was miserable to be around. It was very cliquey,” she explained.

OMG. We wonder who she’s talking about! But the “Tell Me You Love Me” singer, who recently celebrated six months of sobriety, revealed that it got so bad, she had to leave the event to go to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting instead.

“I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink. I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on — millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting,” she continued. “And I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala.”

Ariana Grande

Ariana wasn’t at the Met Gala for a very important reason — she was busy slaying the stage instead! That’s right. The “Dangerous Woman” songstress is in the midst of her Sweetener Tour and had a concert in Los Angeles on Monday night.

Justin Bieber

Since Hailey graced the red carpet at the 2019 Met Gala alone, a lot of fans were wondering where her husband was. It turns out, Justin’s just not a big fan of red carpets or events in general.

Back in 2016, he wrote on Instagram, “No disrespect to anybody at any of the shows or the people running it. Nothing but love for you guys and your support. But I don’t feel good when I’m there nor after. I try to think of it as a celebration but can’t help feeling like people are rating and grading my performance.”

Selena Gomez

Selena has been staying pretty low-key ever since she returned from rehab at the end of last year. Since then, she’s slowly been making her way back into the spotlight. She did make a rare red carpet appearance at WE Day on April 25, but it looks like the Met Gala wasn’t in the cards for her this time around.

Taylor Swift

Everyone thought the “Look What You Made Me Do” songstress would make an appearance, but she was no where to be found! Why? Well, she was spotted in London a few days prior, so she probably spent the evening with her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn, instead.
