MTV EMA 2017: Shawn Mendes Kisses Grandma, Rita Ora Wears a Robe

Rita Ora channeled her inner Squidward.

Rita Ora legitimately wore a bathrobe and towel to the 2017 MTV EMAs, and somehow it looked chic AF. It was a surprising fashion move, to say the least. Not to mention, fans pointed out that the look was very reminiscent of the Spongebob episode titled "Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost" from Season 1 where Squidward pretends to be a ghost, wearing a v similar outfit to Rita's red carpet style. Twinsies!

Shawn Mendes brought his grandma along.

So Shawn Mendes won not one, not two – but three EMA awards. He snagged "Best Song" for his jam "There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back," along with the "Best Arist" and "Biggest Fans" categories. What made the night the most special though was the fact that he brought his Nana along for the ride.

Our hearts just about combusted into a trillion little pieces when she gave him a hug and a kiss before we went up to receive his "Best Artist" award. Can you even imagine how proud she is of her grandson? So sweet!

Sabrina Carpenter threw it back to Girl Meets World in black lace.

When a fan on Twitter pointed out that Sab's black long sleeve gown looked just like the one Riley rocked in "Girl Meets Yearbook," we just couldn't get it out of our heads. Although it probably wasn't her intention to mimic the Girl Meets World look, it makes the look just that much more meaningful. But let's be real, she always slays every red carpet she touches.

Lana Del Rey and Demi Lovato had a serious moment.

These two lovely ladies met back in 2015 at the Billboard Women in Music Awards when the two snapped an adorable selfie. "Cool for the summer….time sadness????" Demi tweeted alongside the shot. Welp, the two reunited at the EMAs, and they couldn't have looked happier to see each other on the red carpet. Our minds cannot possibly even imagine how life-changing it would be if these two collaborated on music together – so we're now demanding a Lana and Demi song, please and thank you.

Someone snuck on the stage during French Montana's performance.

Well, that was unexpected. Viewers may or may not have noticed someone climbing up on stage and jumping around with a banner during French Montana and Swae Lee's performance. It almost looked like it was part of the show – that's how unaffected the performers were. No really, Swae Lee even put his arm around him as if he was a backup dancer or something. Crew members quickly stepped in to lead the man away though. It all happened in the blink of an eye, really.

So who was it, you ask? The YouTube channel Trollstation was behind it, as they're a group of British pranksters who do crazy social experiments like this one. Apparently, they were trying to raise money for Children In Need – which like, at least it was for a good cause?

Liam Payne took a tumble backstage.

Liam Payne totally killed his EMA performance, but there was something v hilarious that you didn't see on TV. Before the show, Liam and Stormzy were playing around with a skateboard – and Liam totes wiped out.
