RIP, musical.ly. The app is no more, joining Vine in land of lost social media apps. The lip sync app was bought by media company Bytedance for a reported $800 million back in November of 2017 – and now they’ve official shut it down and relaunched their own app TikTok (a musical.ly competitor) in its place.

A representitive of the new app told Tubefilter, “Musical.ly is growing and evolving with a new name. With Musical.ly and TikTok merged, the mission remains unchanged, and we continue our social media revolution by truly enabling everyone to be creator. Also, our users will enjoy a much bigger and more global community, better content experience, and faster product innovations in the future.”

Basically, it’s TikTok is the 2018 version of Vine and musical.ly all wrapped in one.

Social media creators are already getting behind the new app, including Bryce Xavier who hopped onto TikTok’s Instagram Stories expressing his excitement for the new era, which is being promoted all over social media with the hashtag #MakeEverySecondCount.

Bryce said, “I am so excited about everything that’s going on with TikTok. I’m so excited for new content that I’m going to be producing. And overall, the musical.ly slash TikTok family has been absolutely amazing, and I am here for this change. I am here for the brand new things that are coming. So excited. Can’t wait.”

Musical.ly is responsible for some of our fave stars – Baby Ariel and Jacob Sartorius, to name a few – so we’re super sad to see it go. But based on the looks of the new TikTok launch, exciting things are in the future for the app!
