Get ready, people, because Bella Swan and Edward Cullen’s story isn’t over just yet! Yep, that’s right. Almost 15 years after the first Twilight came out, the author of the book series, Stephenie Meyer, just announced that she’s got a new part of the story in the works, and boy, does it sound like it’s going to be good!

OK, get this — the new book, called Midnight Sun, will tell the same story as Twilight, but from Edward’s point of view instead! It’s set to hit stands on August 4, 2020, and we can’t wait!

“When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella’s side of the story. At last, readers can experience Edward’s version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun,” a statement reads. “This unforgettable tale, as told through Edward’s eyes, takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most intriguing and unnerving event he has experienced in his many years as a vampire. As we learn more fascinating details about Edward’s past and the complexity of his inner thoughts, we understand why this is the defining struggle of his life.

“It feels strange to be making this announcement when the world is suffering through a pandemic, and no one really knows what’s next. I thought seriously about delaying this announcement until things were back to normal; however, that felt wrong, considering how long those who are eager for this book have already waited,” the author explained. “I know how much I personally need distractions right now, how much I need something to look forward to, and most of all, how much I need more books to read. So, I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, after it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while. I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers, and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun.”

For those who forgot, back in 2008, rumors first started to swirl that the writer was working on Midnight Sun. But when the first twelve chapters were seemingly leaked online at the time, Stephenie decided to shut down the book.

“If I tried to write Midnight Sun now, in my current frame of mind, James would probably win and all the Cullens would die, which wouldn’t dovetail too well with the original story,” she wrote in a blog post after it leaked. “In any case, I feel too sad about what has happened to continue working on Midnight Sun, and so it is on hold indefinitely.”

Now, more than a decade later, she’s finally ready to release the book! Ugh, can it be August 4 already?!
