Nick Jonas was given the Hero Award at the 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards for his work about spreading awareness about diabetes, a disease he has been battling since he was first diagnosed when he was 13 years old. The singer walked the red carpet with a group of children who are also struggling with the same condition, and he brought them up on stage when he was receiving his award.
Actor Jack Black introduced the singer with a super emotional and spot on introduction about just how much Nick has done to raise awareness and to help others like him living with diabetes.
Nick thanked his support system and asked everyone to be someone's hero. He said his personal heroes don't wear capes but they are normal people just like everyone else. He said his father Paul Jonas was his hero and thanked the rest of his family for their support and shouting out his Jonas Brothers saying, "my brothers are the best, and I have a wonderful mother."
Nick tweeted about the moment saying he was "honored" to receive the award.
Disney Channel tweeted about the moment saying: "The best part of the show is when we get see the recipient of the #RDMA Hero Award! Thanks for all you do @NickJonas!"
A fan tweeted about the magical moments Nick was having that night saying: "Nick got to be recognized for his charity work AND perform with his idol Shania Twain. Congrats on a good day indeed @nickjonas"
And Nick responded saying it was a special day.
