One Direction has been on hiatus for much longer than we expected when they made the announcement back in 2015. But, it seems like fans may get to hear all of their voices on the same record in the next couple of weeks.

Simon Cowell, who is responsible for the creation of the band, felt compelled to help when the Grenfell Tower in London was engulfed in flames. It took the lives of dozens of people and injured many others. Simon is using the platform he has been given as well as his powerful connections in the music industry to record a charity single.

He said, “Every hour it got worse and worse. You think of yourself in that situation. The loss of life is terrible. Many of the families have got nothing, no insurance. I went around to have a look but couldn’t get close. It’s one of the most shocking things I have ever seen. I feel sadness, anger… so many emotions.”

Simon continued, “The lack of safety is so bad. There will be huge repercussions. It hit me very hard, especially when I heard about the baby being thrown out of the window. I was going to send a check but I thought we could do more. That’s why we are making a record. It sends a message of support. We got this up and running in 48 hours. I spoke to all the major labels and they got back to me in an hour offering their support.”

This record is where One Direction will hopefully lend their voices. Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson are already confirmed. It’s being reported that Niall Horan and Harry Styles are trying to clear their schedules to make it happen. There’s only one catch here – the guys will all sing as solo acts. They will not be singing the same lines and coming together as a united band. It will be their solo voices which is super interesting.

There’s no telling who made this decision.

Some other singers who are signed on to contribute are Rita Ora, Leona Lewis, Paloma Faith, The Who and James Arthur. The single will be a rendition of Simon & Garfunkel’s hit, “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” The tribute will undoubtedly be beautiful. Fingers crossed all four boys get in on such a good cause.
