We’ve all been beyond excited for Steven Spielberg’s remake of West Side Story, especially because it was announced in October that Ansel Elgort was going to play Tony. But we’ve all been on the edge of our seats wondering who would be cast for the role of Maria. And as if seeing the Fault In Our Stars actor sing and dance on the big screen wasn’t enough, the movie just got even better because they’ve finally announced who will be playing Tony’s love interest — and it’s totally not who you’d expect!

Drum roll please… 17-year-old Rachel Zegler has just landed the role and get this — she’s actually a completely normal high school student! That’s right, this is actually Rachel’s first role ever, so it’s a pretty epic accomplishment. And since she’s never acted before, you may be wondering, “Where do I recognize her from?” Well guys, the 17-year-old has actually been all over our social media feeds lately because of her amazing singing voice. The actress has actually been uploading covers to her YouTube channel for months, and one of them recently went viral because it was unbelievably good.

After someone accused her of using autotune, Rachel shared a video of her belting out the song “Shallow” from A Star Is Born to an empty arena and wow, we literally have chills.

She’s seriously so talented, and the video quickly took the Internet by storm. Receiving over 83,000 retweets and 337,000 likes, the young star caught everyone’s attention — including some celebrities! Actress Lily Collins reposted the video, sending a sweet message to the Rachel.

“Couldn’t have found a better Maria for West Side Story,” she wrote. “Your voice is unreal, I can’t stop watching this. Congrats and can’t wait to see it. Get ready girl!”

Rachel could not be more excited about landing the role. “I am so thrilled to be playing the iconic role of Maria alongside this amazing cast,” she said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “West Side Story was the first musical I encountered with a Latina lead character. As a Colombian-American, I am humbled by the opportunity to play a role that means so much to the Hispanic community.”

She seriously seems so perfect for it, and we cannot wait to see her in the movie!
