Calling all Riverdale fans — get ready to see Casey Cott (and the rest of the cast) like never before! That’s right, on Wednesday, April 16, the fan-favorite CW show will take on Hedwig & The Angry Inch for Season 4’s highly anticipated musical episode. Not only will the stars be singing and dancing to songs from the iconic Broadway show, but they’ll be unrecognizable while doing it.
For those who don’t know, Hedwig is a rock musical that follows Hedwig Schmidt, a genderqueer East German singer. The one act stage show told Hedwig’s life story as she followed a fellow rockstar’s tour around the country, often performing in the smaller venues next door, and it’s known for it’s stunning costumes and makeup looks.
Well, you’re in luck because Riverdale executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has given his social media followers a sneak peak at the new episode via Instagram, and yes, Kevin Keller has taken the character of Hedwig to a whole new level. Of course, he’s not the only one. Yep, the entire cast gets their Hedwig moment too, and it looks like it’s going to be amazing, TBH!
Back in January, it was announced in a statement that “after the previous debacles of Carrie and Heathers, Kevin Keller has decided to revive Riverdale High’s tradition of hosting a Variety Show! But when Mr. Honey forbids him from performing a number from Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Kevin and our gang rallies against their principal — by each performing a number from Hedwig, turning the Variety Show into a full-fledged musical that, as always, reflects our characters’ inner lives and struggles. And amidst all the drama, one forbidden ‘showmance’ begins to blossom.”
Live performances and a new relationship all in one episode — can it get any better?! Well, yes, actually it can! After looking at the fictional cast list, it seemed like everyone will be getting a chance to sing a song this year!
So, mark your calendars and get ready to rock Riverdale viewers because Hedwig is coming!
