Selena Gomez and The Weeknd made their red carpet debut at the 2017 MET Gala and all eyes were on them. This was the couple's first official public appearance and they couldn't have been any cuter. From the kissing, cuddling and non-stop smiling, it was clear that Selena and The Weeknd are totally head over heels for each other.

However, even though Selena is currently in a high-profile relationship with the "Star Boy" singer and was on and off with Justin Bieber for years – she revealed at the coveted fashion event on Monday that she doesn't really care how famous she is.

The 13 Reasons Why producer revealed that if all of the lights, the attention, the celebrity status and the fancy events went away, she would be okay with it. Selena chatted with Humans of New York – an Internet blog that went viral after posting photos of nonfamous human beings in New York City and giving a small glimpse into their lives – at the event.

Selena gave her excerpt to the HONY blog and it was absolutely perfect. She said, "I feel like I’m just starting, but I think I’d be fine if it all went away. I get that from my mother. From the moment I started singing, she always reminded me that all of this was a privilege, and could be taken at any moment. So singing is not how I define myself. I try to keep my identity rooted in my friendships and my faith."

Wow! Not only is this awesome to hear from someone who is so influential in the teen community and culture but it's also very eye-opening.

If fans remember correctly, Selena actually pulled herself out of the limelight last year when she decided to go to rehab to treat Lupus – a disease she has been battling for a very long time. She cut her REVIVAL tour short and really just went to focus on herself and her health. So, thinking about it, Sel is true to her word. She was actually able to leave the world of celebrities and Hollywood. She has revealed in the past that she didn't even have a cell phone and disconnected from everything.

Of course, her mom, Mandy Teefey, did an amazing job raising her to understand that fame is always temporary and just because you're a star doesn't mean you will stay one forever. It seems like Selena really took that to heart and it is what keeps her grounded amongst other things like her friendships and her faith.

To be honest, Selena seems like she is wise beyond her years and if she decided to really make the move and become a celebrity of the past, living a truly nonfamous life, she would probably be just as great at it as she is as a public figure!

You go, girl!
