Selena Gomez walked down the blue carpet at WE Day, and answered exactly the question fans wanted to know—was Selena expecting 13 Reasons Why to be such a hit? The singer spoke to E! News on the carpet about why she believed in the project from day one, and what her purpose was to create a show which such a strong message for teenagers and children.

Some people have criticized the show for being too graphic for children, and also for glamorizing suicide but the singer is asserting that her point was to open a dialogue and discussion so that people do not shy away from these topics.

"We stayed very true to the book and that's initially what Jay Asher created was a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story and I think that's what we wanted to do," she said.

"We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, (the backlash is) gonna come no matter what. It's not an easy subject to talk about, but I'm very fortunate with how it's doing."

"I just wanted it to come across in a way that kids would be frightened, but confused, in a way that they would talk about it because it's something that's happening all the time. "

"So I am overwhelmed that it is doing as well as it is doing," she said.

Will she be down to make another season of the show? Selena reacted with an innocent look on her face and said, "Maybe."

It would be interesting to see where the story goes since there would be no book to based it from. There were so many questions left unanswered at the end of the first season so it would only be right to see what happens to the rest of the characters now that Hannah Baker is gone.
