Ever since they met in 2008, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez have been best friend goals. During a recent radio interview, the singer was asked to reveal what it was like when her friends listened to her upcoming album RARE for the first time. Selena told the hosts that her pals loved it, but one reaction stood out among the rest. It turned out, the songstress’ BFF Taylor cried the first time she watched the music videos for Selena’s songs “Lose You To Love Me” and “Look At Her Now.”

“It was one of the coolest experiences because I’ve been friends with her for over a decade and love her family as well so I was like, ‘Do you want to just maybe see the video?’ and she’s like, ‘Amazing, of course.’ It was so hysterical,” she said during an appearance on KISS FM U.K.’s breakfast show on Tuesday, December 17. “She just started turning off every single light off in the kitchen. And I was like, ‘This is not that intense, Taylor.’ And then she played it and her and her mom just started crying.”

Selena revealed that the Swift ladies got emotional because they were by her side throughout the entirety of her past relationship, which the songs are seemingly about.

“It wasn’t about how great the song was — which is a lot, coming from her — it was just that they had been on that journey with me intimately, and they were crying because of how proud they were for me stepping into a whole new era of my life and it not involving the horrible things — the abuse, the emotional chaos,” she explained. “It felt like I had a huge sigh of relief and to see her and her mom feel that way, it was very sweet.”

For those who missed it, fans have speculated that the two tracks are about her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber. The pair first started dating back in 2010 and were on and off for almost eight years. In July 2019, Taylor seemingly revealed that the singer cheated on Selena at one point in their tumultuous relationship, when she liked a super shady post about it on Tumblr.

During an On Air With Ryan Seacrest interview from October, Selena revealed that the first two singles have ended a chapter in her life while the rest of her new music will chronicle her journey to happiness.

“All I know is these two songs were me wrapping up a chapter in a pretty little bow and the rest of the album is all about where I am now and where I’m going,” she said. “So, in my opinion, these are great songs, but I’ve saved the best for later.”
