She’s opening up. During her new Allure cover story, Selena Gomez revealed that during the early days of her music career, she felt “pressure” to be more sexual with her music videos.

“I just did things that weren’t really me,” the 28-year-old recalled while talking to the magazine. “There was pressure to seem more adult on my album, Revival. [I felt] the need to show skin … I really don’t think I was [that] person.”

As fans know, the former Disney Channel starlet’s second album included songs like “Good for You,” “Hands to Myself” and “Same Old Love.” The record’s cover also showed Selena topless, wearing high-waisted shorts.

REVIVAL 10.9

Following the album’s release in 2015, Selena went on the Revival World Tour, which was cut short in 2016 due to side effects caused by lupus.

“As many of you know, around a year ago I revealed that I have lupus, an illness that can affect people in different ways. I’ve discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges,” she said in a statement to People at the time. “I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off.”

While talking with Allure, Selena also got real about about what it’s been like to have her body criticized by the public amid her health issues and 2017 kidney transplant.

“My personal life was out everywhere. It felt very claustrophobic and just … I felt very trapped,” the Wizards of Waverly Place alum explained. “I was dealing with a lot of medical problems, so I fluctuated in weight a lot. It was just unfair for someone to handle.”

Now, the songstress revealed that she stays off social media, never reads comments and hasn’t searched her name “in years.”

“I honestly can’t. I’m strong in a lot of ways, but I think I just have way too much of a sensitive heart,” Selena also explained in Allure.

Despite all the hardships she’s suffered in the past, Selena is now “in full control” of her life.
