After fans slammed beauty vlogger Patrick Starrr‘s review of Selena Gomez‘s recently released Rare Beauty makeup line, the brand spoke out in a statement.

“We’re so thrilled by all the great feedback on @rarebeauty so far! It’s so uplifting to see how much love and support we’re receiving from the community for our brand mission and our products,” Rare Beauty wrote on Twitter on Thursday, September 10. “But please remember that everyone has different preferences with makeup, and not everything is going to work for everyone.”

Viewers were unhappy with Patrick’s 17-minute video review after the YouTuber, 30, admitted he was “biased” while trying out the makeup. Some people noted that he “compared” Rare Beauty to his own line with Sephora, One/Size, throughout the video. Others said his review was “shady.”

“I think I prefer mine over Rare. That’s just me,” Patrick said while swatching Selena’s eyeliner, before ending his video on a positive note. “Overall, I love the brand. It’s very clean, fresh, natural.”

In their statement following the backlash from fans, Rare Beauty addressed Patrick’s video directly and called him a “positive voice in this community and an incredible creator and entrepreneur.”

Their Twitter statement added, “Let’s all show him nothing but love!”

Upon seeing their social media posts, Patrick responded.

Love [you] @selenagomez congrats on the launch,” he wrote on Twitter.

The former Disney Channel star, 28, launched Rare Beauty on September 3 with 16 different “vegan and cruelty-free” products, including Lip Souffle Matte Cream Lipstick, Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation, Positive Light Liquid Luminizer Highlight, Perfect Strokes Matte Liquid Liner and more.

Ahead of the launch, Selena talked to Bustle and explained why the entire brand is “bigger than makeup.”

“I fully believe that it’s your mind and it’s your body and it’s your soul. The relationship with you and your makeup should be healthy and should be fun and should be, in some cases, I’ve found, therapeutic,” she said, adding that the most important part was making Rare Beauty “inclusive.”
