It's time to feel the love and rock and roll!
Shawn Mendes has many talents and he's putting them to good use. The "Mercy" singer is set to dip his toes into the acting pool and play a role in the live-action movie musical, Summer of Love. There's not many details yet specifically regarding who his character will be or if he'll lend his vocals to the soundtrack. But, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie is set to take place in the summer of 1967 in San Francisco.
During this time, nearly 100,000 people and young adult hippies made their way to the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood in San Francisco to show their opposition to the Vietnam War. It was a peaceful protest that was filled with music, love and dancing.

Not only was this summer known for the hippie migration, but it is also known for the famous musicians that came out to perform. Artists like The Who, The Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin all showed up to create history. Now, Shawn will be a part of remaking that history.
This will be Shawn's biggest feature film role; however, he has had some other acting gigs before. The Canadian heartthrob made a guest appearance on The 100 and offered up his voice to the animated film, Underdogs, in 2013. But this new movie musical will definitely be something that his fans are going to want to see and remember.
Shawn has not yet commented on the whole thing, but it's being reported that the director, Ivan Reitman, enlisted Shawn for the role. Ivan is Canadian as well, and this will be his first time directing a musical. We have a feeling that these two are going to make a great pair and we can't wait to see the work that they put in all play out on the big screen. If Shawn's acting is anything like this music, this will surely be something epic!
