I always wonder what it's like for everyone to know your name. I'd like to think I could ask Shawn Mendes but after his latest confession, that is clearly not the case. The "Treat You Better" singer made an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and let the world know that he's not as famous of a face as we'd all like to think. Obviously, I know who Shawn is. You definitely know who Shawn is. But, that doesn't mean most older people know who he is. Shawn is on a path for a complete musical takeover of the industry, however, he's not quite there yet.
Well, at least Drake's security guard doesn't think so. Yes, we know. How did Drake and his security guard get into all this? Well, funny situation Shawn got himself into. He said, "The few times I was really star struck was meeting Drake when I got to meet him for the first time. It was like this weird thing like in my head Drake was just like the God because I’m from Toronto and meeting him was this very crazy thing."
He continued, "The other night I was in Toronto and I went to see The Weeknd, switching artists all over the place, but, Toronto. Anyways, I’m watching The Weeknd and we’re up on the riser and Drake’s also there watching the show along with another few artists and stuff and I go over and I’m like, 'Oh that’s Drake, I’ll go say hi, he must remember me from previous experiences, like twice.'
So I go over and I see him, he’s a huge guy, right? So you don’t just go over to him, I guess not. So I go to touch his side, his 6 foot 6 [inch], 300-pound security guard…next thing I know I’m in the middle of The Weeknd’s show with my arm hooked behind my back, Drake’s security guard has me completely at his mercy. I’m like, 'Oh no!' I see Drake look over and in my eyes, I knew it was like, 'Help me, please, Drake.' In that moment if he didn’t remember who I was, I don’t know what I would have done. I would have been in jail."
Oh my god. Can you even imagine how Shawn felt? Not only is that a bit embarrassing since Shawn is super popular, but that is really frightening. Obviously, the security guard was just doing his job and protecting Drake but STILL. I think it's time Drake's security reads up on their pop culture so this doesn't happen again.
Thankfully, Drake recognized Shawn. He said, "Luckily he looked at me and I saw him put the things together in his mind and he realized it was me and he comes over and grabs the guard and was like, 'Don’t do that, you don’t know who that is.' I was terrified." LOL, YASSS, Drake. But, moral of the story here? Shawn couldn't have said it better himself on The Tonight Show, "Don’t expect everybody to know who you are."
