Selena Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus awhile ago and shared the news with the world when she was comfortable, which is something to admire. She was able to talk about it with confidence and not worry that she may break down.
We love her honesty and openness and in her new interview with GQ, the "Hands to Myself" singer demonstrated her strength when it came to talking about her disease for the first time. We, the world, the media, were actually the last ones to know. She revealed which boy it was that she talked with for the first time about her struggle while they were in a hospital room together.
The former Disney star went to a hospital for a celebrity charity event and met someone who changed her life.
Selena said, "And there was this kid that wouldn’t look me in the eye at all. And I wear my emotions on my face, as you just have witnessed. And I don’t care, that’s who I am. I wanted to get his attention, even though maybe it was too much. So I just said, ‘Ask me anything you want.’ And he was the first person that I told, besides my best friend and family, because he asked me, ‘Have you ever dealt with anything like this?’ And I said, ‘I have lupus. I was in the ICU for two and a half weeks. I was in this exact same room.’ And it was the first time that he looked at me."
This is so beautiful and inspiring. We're applauding Sel that she was able to share this personal and private moment which may not have only helped her come out with the diagnosis publicly but really just helped this boy more than she could have ever imagined. You go, Selena!
