The highly-anticipated movie, The Hate U Give, hits select theaters today! The film is in theaters everywhere on Oct. 19, but the cast gathered in New York City last night for a star-studded premiere event. Leading lady Amandla Stenberg was joined by her castmates Sabrina Carpenter, Algee Smith, Lamar Johnson, and more. KJ Apa unfortunately wasn’t in attendance, as he’s currently filming Season 3 of Riverdale in Vancouver, Canada. Sabrina took to Twitter to share just how moved she was by Amandla’s performance in the movie.

In case you are not familiar, The Hate U Give is a book-to-movie adaptation of the Black Lives Matter-based novel of the same name. It follows the story of a 16-year-old girl Starr (AKA Amandla), who attends a prep school in the suburbs. She witnesses her unarmed best friend get shot by a police officer, and life gets turned upside down for her. Sabrina plays Hailey, Starr’s friend from school.
