News of Selena Gomez and The Weeknd's split after 10 months of dating broke a couple of weeks ago, but ever since then, the exes seemed cordial – on social media at least. Selena actually liked a photo of The Weeknd and his buddy French Montana just days after calling it quits. The fact that the both of them still followed each other was a feat in and of itself. But, it looks like The Weeknd has finally taken matters into his own hands and their breakup has become Instagram official. The "Starboy" singer has deleted all traces of Selena on his Instagram account and unfollowed her – anyone who's anyone knows that when this happens things are 100 percent dunzo between the former couple.
The craziest part about all of this is that Selena has yet to do the same. She actually posted more photos of the pair during their relationship and she has kept all of them live on her account. It's possible she has yet to get wind of The Weeknd's photo purge. So, we could see her do in the same in the coming days. However, as of now, he still remains a part of her past social media life.
Regardless of whose following who and what photos have and have not been deleted, Selena opened up about their split for the first time to Billboard magazine and the fans are absolutely shook over it. She said that she's actually really happy about where things ended up between them. "Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]. I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me." They ended it as best friends, yet she's as visible as a GHOST on his Instagram page right now. But, I DIGRESS.
In the more recent weeks, Selena has been spotted trying to fully rekindle her puppy love romance with Justin Bieber. While we're not totally sure if that played a factor in The Weeknd's decision to do all of this, it is possible. It's important to note that Selena nor Justin has yet to post any photos with each other on the 'gram since they have started hanging out again. But, at the speed they are going, it might not be too far off. They were already seen kissing at an ice skating rink during Justin's hockey game before Thanksgiving.
But, The Weeknd can't play the victim card here either. He was spotted leaving his ex, Bella Hadid's, New York City apartment a little over a week ago. So, there might be some serious rekindlings going on behind closed doors. With the Instagram breakup confirmed, either The Weeknd is just letting everyone know that he and Selena are over for good or he's paving way for the next gal's photos to take her spot. Bella, maybe?
