The Weeknd and Selena Gomez called off their relationship several weeks ago and really, fans don't exactly know why. There have been rumors that the pair just had completely different schedules which made it hard to see each other, but aside from that nothing else has been said. Selena just addressed the fact that the two were no longer an item in an interview with Billboard magazine last week. When asked about the best part of being single, she said, "The best part? It’s actually… you know what, though? Something that I’m really proud of is that there’s such a true friendship [between me and The Weeknd]. I truly have never experienced anything like that in my life. We ended it as best friends, and it was genuinely about encouraging and caring [for each other], and that was pretty remarkable for me."

So, now that she has actually confirmed the split without really even giving any true details, it leaves fans to wonder if the long distance relationship really did take a toll. The Weeknd was busy on tour as Selena was working on a new Woody Allen movie in New York City. Obviously, the separation can be really hard for celebrity couples. During a recent performance in Australia, The Weeknd made a jab at long distance relationships which had the fans thinking he was throwing shade at his situation with Selena.

He said to the crowd, "I know this is like a long distance relationship here. But I feel like I’ll come to Sydney every year, at least once." He alludes to the fact that even though he loves the Australian city, it's hard to see it all the time. While he doesn't mention Selena, lots of fans paralleled his feelings for Sydney with his emotions toward the "Bad Liar" singer. One Twitter user said, "While performing in Sydney, The Weeknd made a joke about long distance relationships — was he reminiscing on his time with Selena Gomez!?"

It's possible that The Weeknd wasn't thinking of Selena at all when those words vomited out of his mouth. But, it's hard not to connect the two. Every shipper knew that Selena and The Weeknd weren't living in the same city and had to put work in to see each other. It sounds like the "Starboy" singer might be about to put in the effort of visiting the land down under in this one-sided long distance relationship of his. Hopefully, it works out better than his relationship with Selena did.
