The MTV Video Music Awards are always star-studded, fun, and entertaining; but most of all, they are always completely crazy. Who can forget that performance from Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke in 2013? Or Blue Ivy and Jay-Z adorably presenting Beyonce with the Vanguard Award? How about that one time that Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech for the Best Female Video award, and started one of the most explosive celebrity feuds of all time?

Well my friends, the wait is nearly over, because the 2017 VMAs will be coming to a screen near you at the end of August. We don’t yet know exactly who will be attending, or how the night will pan out, but it promises to be anything but boring. With Katy Perry set to host, and a medley of talented musicians performing, it’s sure to be well worth watching. We’re especially excited about Miley’s performance. Whether she performs “Malibu” or a new song from her upcoming album Younger Now, we can’t wait to see Miley perform on stage! Before you sit down to watch, make sure you brush up on your VMA knowledge with all the handy info we’ve compiled.

Where can I watch the VMAs?

MTV, duh. Check your local listings for your specific channel. You can also live stream the show online if you have the login deets through your cable provider.

When is the VMA and what time will it air on TV?

The VMAs will show live on Sunday, August 27, 2017, at 8 p.m ET/PT.

Where are the VMAs being held?

As usual, the VMAs will take place at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Who is performing at the 2017 Video Music Awards?

In two promo videos, MTV revealed that we will see performances from host Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar, Miley Cyrus, Ed Sheeran, Fifth Harmony, Lorde, The Weeknd, Thirty Seconds to Mars, and Shawn Mendes. Try saying all that in one breath! Pink will also perform, as she is also being awarded the illustrious Video Vanguard Award. Other performers include Sir Rod Stewart and DNCE, Demi Lovato, Logic and Khalid, Post Malone, and Julia Michaels. Alessia Cara and Kyle will take the stage as well. The pre-show performances include Bleachers, Khalid, and Cardi B.

What makes the Video Music Awards special this year?

A few things. First, the VMAs made award show history by releasing all the nominees on Instagram Live! They enlisted Instagram A-Listers from Bretnam Rock to Nate Garner to help break the news. In addition, the VMAs are continuing their popular move from last year by introducing even more gender-neutral awards! Best Female Video and Best Male Video will be combined into one category, as will the Artist of the Year award. They have also added the new category: Best Fight Against the System.

MTV is also celebrating the solar eclipse to align with the new, renamed “Moon Person.” On August 21, 2017, the network will air special eclipse-themed graphics to celebrate. Plus, in Charleston, Chicago, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York and St. Louis, MTV is partnering with Fooji to give away VMA eclipse glasses and astronaut ice cream to fans who tweet #TotalEclipseMTV and the emoji of the female astronaut. (If you’re in Times Square, they’ll also be giving away eclipse glasses.)

Why is Pink receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award?

The award is given to artists who have made significant contributions to the industry. In previous years, the award has been given to Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Kanye West, and Rihanna, among others. Pink will celebrate her 17-year-long career as a solo artist.

Her debut single, “There You Go,” dropped in early 2000 and she’s been a force in the industry ever since.

Why is Taylor Swift releasing her “Look What You Made Me Do” music video at the VMAs?

After dropping her song “Look What You Made Me Do,” the artist announced that she will be releasing the music video for the track at the MTV Video Music Awards at 8pm ET. She’ll be opening the show with it!

It’s all coming full circle, because the VMAs is where Kanye interrupted her acceptance speech — and the song is reportedly based on the situation with him.

According to an MTV spokesperson, “The ‘Despacito’ video was not submitted for consideration.” However, the song will be a nominee for the Song of the Summer category, which will be announced on August 21, 2017.
