It’s been almost two years since Zayn Malik released music of his own, but now, a new song from the singer has leaked online. It’s called “Hurt,” and ever since it hit the web fans have been speculating about who inspired the track. Is it about his former One Direction bandmates? What about his girlfriend, Gigi Hadid? Not to worry, people, because J-14 broke down the shady lyrics once and for all.
“You know me the best but you hurt me the worst / Every single thing you know about me is every single thing you use to only hurt,” the lyrics read. “I know I should let go now (but I know, but I know) / No one else feels like home, yeah / You know just what to say to make me stay, make me stay / One more dose of the pain.”
The song was reportedly written back in 2017 for his latest LP, Icarus Falls, but was left off the 29-track album in the end. So who is it about? Well, it’s hard to say but a lot of fans have speculated that it was based off his on-and-off relationship with Gigi.
For those who missed it, rumors first started swirling that the “Like I Would” crooner and the model were dating back in November 2015. Us Weekly reported that the two were spotted packing on the PDA at Justin Bieber‘s AMA’s afterparty, and naturally, the internet went wild.
“It’s a very new thing. They’re just seeing where it goes,” a source told the outlet at the time.
Then, the two made then things official when Zayn dropped the music video for his single “Pillowtalk” in January 2016. Gigi starred in the visual with the 27-year-old, and the two couldn’t keep their hands (or their lips!) off each other! After that, they were definitely not afraid to show off their love — they did numerous photoshoots together, walked a bunch of red carpets side by side, gushed over each other in interviews and online and even shared a ton of PDA-filled pictures on Instagram.
But the two stars have unfortunately had a few bumps along the way too. They’ve actually broken up and gotten back together multiple times throughout their five-year relationship. At the moment they seem to be going strong, since Gigi shared a throwback snap of her and Zayn to her Instagram back in March.
