J-14 is scouting out the hottest music around... and this week's pick is Radio Silence NYC.
Here are five things you need to know about Radio Silence NYC, whose debut album will drop in the summer of 2011!
Radio Silence NYC is made up of four 16-year-old friends -- singer/guitarist Zach, guitarist Dylan, bassist Tim, and drummer Wyatt. They say their name came from combining a lot of different ideas. "In the end, we hope to introduce people to a different sound than what they're hearing currently," Wyatt tells J-14.
Over the summer, the band wrote a list of things they had a problem with, and all four wrote down hate/haters, which inspired their single, "Renegade." "When school started up again, all these stories came out on the news and in the media about kids being bullied excessively, which is something that every high school student witnesses at least once in their life," Zach explains. "We decided to make the "Renegade" music video to get our message across that "hatred is the enemy" and that all the hate has to be stopped."
The band is halfway done with their debut album, which they plan to release next summer. They've already teamed up with DoSomething.org to get the "Renegade" message to fans as well as plan a high school tour for 2011.
Radio Silence NYC may be a rock band, but the group would love to collaborate with a rapper. "I love rappers like Drake and Eminem -- I've been listening to him since I was seven," Wyatt says. "Collaborating with one of them would be completely awesome."
She may be married, but that hasn't stopped Dylan from crushing on a fellow performer -- Katy Perry!
