Some fans are seriously not happy with Olly Murs. The singer received some major backlash online after he pulled a prank on his girlfriend, Amelia Tank, for a TikTok video, which some people deemed as “inappropriate.” Some viewers even accused the musician of “sexual assault” because of his actions during the prank.
After the clip hit the web and the 35-year-old year saw all the negative comments, he took to Twitter to apologize.
“So I’ve had a few days to think about this, and wanted to apologize to anyone who has been offended by my social videos. My intention was only to make people smile and laugh during these trying times. Am wishing you all a great bank holiday remember to #bekind #stayathome,” Olly wrote.
Some fans were quick to accept his apology for the prank, with many telling the former X Factor contestant that there was no need to apologize.
“You shouldn’t have to be. Some people are just idiots looking for you to retaliate. All of your fans love and adore you and they know that was not your intention, just to make us laugh. We love you,” one person replied. Another added, “Please don’t stop making TikToks, you’ve been entertaining us all throughout this lockdown [and] we love you for it. Never stop being your funny, cheeky, lovely self, we love you for you. Hope you’re okay Ols x.”
As fans know, Olly isn’t the only celeb to receive criticism over a video. Internet stars like Tana Mongeau and James Charles came under fire from fans after they participated in the controversial “mugshot” TikTok challenge last month. For those who missed it, with the use of makeup and prosthetics, various influencers have been creating mock mugshots and posting them online. But some people felt that the videos had glorified domestic abuse.
James has since removed his TikTok video and Tana’s has since-expired from her Instagram Stories.
