Hey J-14ers!

It's finally summer! You're excited school is out, you want to hang out with your friends, maybe go to the movies. Well, the characters in Super 8 feel the exact same way — only they're ready to spend the summer making their own movie!

Super 8 starts out in the summer of 1979 when a group of teenage boys innocently enough set out to make their own zombie movie. When they realize they need a girl in their movie, the director Charles (Riley Griffiths) asks his crush Alice (Elle Fanning) to be in their movie. Turns out, he's not the only one with a crush on Alice. His best friend Joe Lamb (Joel Courtney) also has a crush on Alice. Drama!

And that would be enough drama for a teenage love triangle, except while they're filming their movie in the middle of the night, they witness and barely escape a train crash, that turns out not to be an accident! Then some strange and terrifying events start happening around town, and that's where the real drama begins…

I don't want to give anything away, because the best part of this movie is having no idea whats going to happen next! But this movie does remind me of some of other great movies. It has the sci-fi with heart feeling of E.T. plus the touching, realistic friend adventure of old school classic Stand By Me, and the mysterious monster-thrill of Cloverfield. And it's funny! Definitely stay for the credits, where they show the silly final product of the Super 8 film they set out the make.
