Werewolves, vampires, wizards, and so many other mythical creatures have taken over our TVs for years. Now, one of Freeform's newest shows is called Siren and follows a seaport town that allegedly used to be home to mermaids. With Vampire Diaries, Teen Wolf, and The Originals all gone or leaving, it's time for a new mythical creature to dive in. Literally.
What is Freeform's Siren TV show about?
The show follows two marine biologists trying to trying to find out more about the mermaids. When a mysterious young girl starts wreaking havoc all across Bristol Cove, two marine biologists, Ben and Maddie, try to find out where she came from and if there are more like her.
Who is in the cast of Siren?
Ben and Maddie are played by Alex Roe and Fola Evans-Akingbola, respectively. Eline Powell takes on the role of the young girl, whose name is Ryn. A deep sea fisherman named Xander (Ian Verdun) is equally as determined to find out who the girl is. He enlists the help of mermaid-believer, Helen (Rena Owen ) to uncover the truth. Later, we'll meet Aylya Marzolf, who will play an alpha mermaid named Katrina, and Sedale Threatt Jr. as Levi, a warrior merman.
Intrigued? Watch the trailer for Siren below:
Instead of being a cute show about mermaids swimming around and having fun, Siren looks super creepy. The show takes the myth seriously. Let's be real. In reality, if humans actually discovered mermaids, things would get intense! Plus, the mermaids in Siren aren't innocent little princesses or beguiling sirens. They're incredible hunters with a little bit of a bloodlust. This is an interesting and exciting take on the familiar creatures.

The song playing in the trailer is an actual song called "Madness" by an American singer/songwriter, Ruelle. The lyrics like "Feel the fury" and "No where to run from all of this havoc" perfectly echo the danger in the trailer. The beat is also super intense. It may be a short trailer, but it's enough to send chills up your spine. If this is any indication of how the music will be within the show, it's bound to be good.
Not convinced yet? Check out this sneak peek of Siren:
Freeform released a special sneak peek of the show during New York Comic Con in 2017. In it, Ryn explores the town and gets used to her new legs. She may be an intense mermaid, but Ryn is also kind of adorable! We'll just have to wait and find out if she's friend or foe.
So, when does Siren come out? Siren's release date is March 29, 2017.
The show will premiere on Freeform that Thursday at 8 p.m. It's a bummer how far away it is, but think of all the other shows that'll come out between now and then. To mark the occasion, there's actually going to be a two-hour special. That totally makes up for the long wait.
