The day is finally here: The action-packed show The Nine Lives of Chloe King premieres tonight at 9 p.m. on ABC family. Luckily, J-14 got a chance to catch up with the show's star, Skyler Samuels, to talk all things Chloe.
J-14: What can we expect to see in the first season of the show?
Skyler Samuels: The first season will give you all sorts of incredible, exciting things - drama, romance, friendship, comedy, action, suspense - I mean, this show is the complete combination of all you could want in one hour of television. This season has taken so many amazing, unexpected turns -- so stay tuned, because it's going to be an awesome ride.
J-14: What's your favorite part about playing Chloe?
Skyler: That would definitely be the fact that Chloe and I are so close in age. She just turned 16, I just turned 17 - we're both juniors in high school - we're both ordinary girls who got thrown into extraordinary circumstances. I constantly learn from Chloe and she inspires me. She's fearless and she takes risks. She's amazing and strong, and she's the embodiment of female empowerment. Chloe King is kind of my role model in a way.
J-14: Chloe has a lot of different superpowers. If you could choose one of Chloe's superpowers, what would it be?
Skyler: If I could choose one of Chloe's superpowers, it would definitely be super speed. I could get so much more done in a day and it would be awesome to just go anywhere quickly. I love it. I'm totally jealous of that.
J-14: What's it like playing someone who's so adventurous?
Skyler: Sometimes it's a little scary to play Chloe, who's way more adventurous than I am. If in real life I was presented the opportunity to chase a bad guy on the edge of the roof, I would probably turn it down. Chloe would be like, "Sure, why not? I'll take you." So sometimes it can be a little nerve-racking because the things I have to do. Just the other night, I was shooting several stories on top of a roof alone and I had to run across the edge of a roof. Even though it's safe and secure, sometimes it's scary because Chloe does things that are totally outside of the natural realm. But it's really exciting, too -- she constantly challenges me to take risks. I totally believe in the you should do something that scares you everyday, overcome those obstacles. It's been really empowering and exciting for me to do all those little things.
J-14: I know you're also in high school -- what's it like to do that and also play Chloe?
Skyler: Well, I mean, it kind of feels like a double life sometimes. It can be hard to keep up with homework and Chloe King - they certainly keep me busy between the two. But my education is really, really important to me. It's something I value to no end. But it's really helpful going to high school full time and being Chloe, because I'm always right there. Even when I'm not playing Chloe King, I'm gaining experience for Chloe King. We're both in high school, we have quirky best friends - so many of our experiences are the same.
