Attention all In Real Life fans — the boys just released a new single! That’s right, Brady TuttonChance PerezDrew RamosSergio Calderon and Conor Smith recently dropped their latest and greatest track “California Christmas” and just spilled the tea on their holiday song exclusively to J-14.

California Christmas is special because we got to write it on our own,” the boys gushed. “It’s cool because it talks about how Christmas doesn’t always have to be about the materialistic side of things. It also reminds people to be grateful about the things that they have. We spend a lot of time in California and we’re talking about how we want to spend Christmas back at home because Christmas here is different.”

As fans know, this is the first single IRL has released since they dropped their album She Do back in August. Other than being a holiday hit, this song is particularly special to the band because it’s the first song they’ve ever written together.

“A lot of our music in the past we weren’t involved in the writing process and it was nice to have our own say and get to decide together what direction we wanted to take with the song,” they said. “We started writing it back in the summer and we worked on it for two days. We wanted to write a holiday song and a Christmas song that wasn’t like every other Christmas song, something that relates to us so we wrote about California.”

That’s not all! Then Brady, Chance, Drew, Sergio and Conor even filmed a music video to go along with the song set in all of California’s “classic spots.”

“The main thing for us was going to spots in California that symbolized California for everyone, so that everyone could relate to the video. So, we were up in the mountains [and] we were near the Hollywood sign,” they explained. “We had a really fun day. We ate at a restaurant, we rode some [scooters] around for a while. We got some ice cream. It was really fun. Everyone expects a music video to be very uptight and planned, but we had a lot of fun.”

As for what’s next for the boys? They said there’s a lot more music and a possible tour to come in 2020.

“We’re actually in the process of putting our second project together right now,” they revealed. “One of our plans is to release music and tour, it seems right. We’ve been all around the US, so maybe we could tour in a different country.”
