We're so incredibly sad to report that Jennette McCurdy's mother, Debbie, passed away today. The Sam & Cat star was very close to her mom, who had been battling cancer for many years.
Debbie was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer in 1995 — at the time, Jennette was only two years old. Miraculously, Debbie defeated the cancer and lived 15 years cancer-free. However, according to TMZ, the cancer came back in 2010 and spread throughout her body, including her brain.
In 2011 Jennette wrote an article for Speakeasy in which she openly talked about her mother's struggle.
"When I’m around my mom, I try to act like nothing’s wrong. She does a great job of that herself," Jennette wrote. "She can barely stand, yet she gets up before me in the morning so that she can make me a mug of hot chocolate. I don’t know how she does it, but she claims it’s what makes her happy."
We caught up with Jennette last week and asked the actress how her mother was doing. She thanked us for asking and said her mom was doing well.
We can't imagine what Jennette is going through right now. Our thoughts go out to the actress and her family.
