It’s been a few years since any new music has been released from Lorde. Luckily that all changed with the release of her new single, “Green Light,” which is surely on it’s way to reach the top of the charts.

The song is unlike anything the “Royals,” singer has done in the past and as it turns out, there may be a major reason for that.

In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Radio’s Beats 1 station, Lorde revealed that her new single is all about dealing with a broken heart.

"The song is actually about a heartbreak. And it's not something that I really am used to writing about. It took me a while to be able to figure out how to write about that. It was my first major heartbreak. And the song is really about those moments kind of immediately after your life changes and about all the silly little things that you gravitate towards,” she said.

Of course many are already speculating that “Green Light,” could be about her ex, James Lowe – considering the two reportedly broke up some time early last year after being together for quite a while.

Although Lorde didn’t divulge any further information on that, she revealed that her album titled Melodrama will also tackle what growing up is really like.

“I moved out of home and all of a sudden I was kind of figuring out, who am I when I’m alone? Who am I when I’m doing things just for myself? And I feel like you can really hear that on this record,” she explained.

That journey of self-discovery is what also led the “Tennis Court,” singer to find a completely new sound for this record.

"It had to be really special and really singular, and it couldn't sound the same as the old stuff,” she continued to say.

Whatever sounds Lorde does experiment with on her new album; we know it’s going to be amazing.
