Millie Bobby Brown just took a surprising stance on Penn Badgley‘s character in the series You, referring to him as “not creepy” despite being a certifiable stalker. Yikes!

In case you haven’t heard, Netflix recently added the series to their collection, which originally aired on Lifetime in September 2018. However, now that it’s on the streaming service and people are able to watch at their own leisure, they haven’t stopped talking about it — and that includes the 14-year-old actress.

Unfortunately, though, it seems that the Stranger Things star has a pretty jaded opinion on the 32-year-old Gossip Girl alum’s character, Joe Goldberg, because she’s defending his indefensible actions by saying “he’s in love with her and it’s OK.” Uhh… what?

You heard that correctly! Even though Joe lurks outside of his love interests apartment, peers through her window, and murders characters who come between their relationship, Millie still thinks he’s just a romantic guy in love. Don’t worry, though! She knew from the get-go that she’d get hate for her opinion.

“By the way, I know everybody is gonna say, ‘Aw, he’s a stalker … why would you support that?’ No, like … he’s in love with her. And it’s just, like … just watch the show and don’t judge me on my opinion.”

Inevitably, people on social media did just that. Horrified that the Netflix star was romanticizing Joe’s character, fans took to Twitter to explain why her stance is totally warped.

One person wrote, “She’s 14 what do you expect,” with another person adding, “She’s too young to understand what real love is sorry she dated someone that sang about a sweatshirt being a big deal for a girl to get in a relationship” Well, they’re not wrong!

Unfortunately, lots of people somehow share this skewed idea that Joe’s character is a hopeless romantic, and even Penn is over it. How do we know? Because he recently responded to fans of the series on Twitter letting them know that Joe isn’t someone they should be rooting for.

When one Twitter user wrote, “The amount of people romanticizing @PennBadgley’s character in YOU scares me,” Penn replied, “Ditto. It will be all the motivation I need for season 2.”

Sure you don’t want to rethink this, Millie?
