The country/pop sister duo Jenny and Ashley recently sat down with J-14 to talk about cyberbullies, body image, and what it's like to hang out with your sister 24/7!
J-14: Can you guys tell me a little bit about yourselves?
Jenny: Well -- we're sisters. We're a pop country duo, and we're originally from Wisconsin. We moved to L.A. when we were younger for acting and singing, and we did commercials for Nickelodeon, Disney, and Fox. We also modeled for Kohl's and Levi's -- and then we got out to Nashville and started writing music. We recorded with the Dance Hall Doctors -- Tim Mcgraw's band and his co-producer Darren Smith -- and we recorded our EP there. It's called "Songs of Our Youth", and it's what we're promoting now, along with "Beach Weekend", the music video we filmed in Laguna Beach.
J-14: Have you ever dealt with cyberbullies?
Jenny: You know, I dealt with a lot of that on Formspring. I ended up deleting it because it was just asking for haters -- because anyone can write anything, and they don't have to own up to what they say. It's just pure insecurity coming out and trying to tear you down, and after a while it gets to you!
J-14: Going back to your modeling days -- did you ever struggle with body image issues?
Jenny: You know, we definitely both have. We're not that stick-skinny type -- we used to be gymnasts and cheerleaders. We have meat on our bones! It's hard, especially in the entertainment business. You really just have to be comfortable in your own skin. We work out all the time, we eat well...
Ashley: We work hard at it but we just look the way that we do -- that's just how we were built.
J-14: You seem so close -- but being sisters, do you ever get into fights?
Jenny: We definitely argue over clothes, because we're the same size. For a while it was fine, because I'm the older one so I was a size bigger. Now, because we're kind of leveling out, it's a little hard. She'll take my clothes and I'm like, "Okay, where did my shirt go?" and Ashley says, "Oh I wore that yesterday," and I say, "Now I can't wear it!"
J-14: What new projects do you have in the works?
Ashley: Well, I wrote a song about a guy I liked a while back. It's called "Indescribable", and there are live performance videos. Those will be coming out soon, and we're actually scripting with some people that we worked with when we were younger. They've watched us grow up -- it's very exciting.
