Hi J-14ers!
I'll be honest with you --Â I'm not exactly the biggest action movie or comic book fan. So when I heard that they were remaking the Spider-Man tale as 'The Amazing Spider-Man', I wasn't exactly all that excited.
But then as it got closer to the release of the movie, I started hearing more about this particular version and it started to spark my interest. And last week, I was lucky enough to catch an early screening of Sony Pictures' 'The Amazing Spider-Man.'
To my surprise, the film's not all packed with high-flying action scenes and superhero fight scenes. Sure, there's that too... but for the bulk of the film, we see Peter Parker (played by the adorable -- and totally crushworthy! -- Andrew Garfield) mask-less as a high school student who gets bullied at school and faces family drama at home... and struggles to find his way.
So don't be like me and judge the film for its superhero status -- give 'The Amazing Spider-Man' a chance and you'll find that it truly is a film packed with heart -- and actually about love of family, friends, and first crushes.
And if that didn't sell you on the film, here are 4 Reasons You Must See 'The Amazing Spider-Man', out July 3.
1- Good Guys Finish First! Peter Parker is a photographer at his high school, but when he sees the school bully picking on another guy, he doesn't just sit back. He steps in and takes action! Standing up to bullying? You're already our hero, Peter!
2- Smart Girls Rock! The female lead, Gwen Stacy, isn't just a hot girl in class that Peter likes -- she's got brains too! Her after-school job is at the prestigious scientific Oscorp company... not an easy gig to get!
3- Love at First Crush! Peter Parker may be an awkward high school guy -- but that's what makes watching him fall for Gwen so frickin' cute. The scene where they try to ask each other out for their first date is so refreshingly awkward... and realistic!
4- Go for Spidey, Fall for Garfield! One flash of British Andrew Garfield's supersweet grin on the big screen --Â and you'll be smitten too! And when he slips into that skintight Spider-Man suit... too hot! Wink, wink!
So check out 'The Amazing Spider-Man' this Fourth of July holiday -- and let me know what you think of the high-flying adventure (and of Andrew Garfield!)!
Can't wait to hear from you! Rachel J-14 Editor-in-Chief
