If anyone knows how to make an audience burst out laughing, it's funny man Will Ferrell! Whether he's singing to his long lost father in Elf, taking on a young soccer team in Kicking & Screaming, or becoming a world famous racecar driver in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, Will is always finding ways to make his fans smile. J-14 recently chatted with Will to talk about his new movie Megamind, what his super powers would be, and meeting Justin Bieber!
J-14: What's the movie about?
Will Ferrell: It's the story of this bad guy, Megamind, and his quest for domination over this city of Metropolis and he is always going up against his arch enemy Metro Man - and always losing. And the day he actually defeats the good guy and he finally gets everything he wants, he realizes that he's completely at a loss without some sort of archrival.
J-14: What was going through your mind when you were asked to play a blue aliens super villain with an abnormally large head?
Will: I was thinking, "Oh, what a good idea!" I was very flattered that DreamWorks wanted me to be a part of this project, especially with a cast of Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, and Brad Pitt. I just thought from the moment they showed me the artwork for it that this kind of semi-menacing character is really just a sweetheart who was totally misunderstood and ends up being a good guy.
J-14: How can you personally relate to your super villain character in Megamind?
Will: He's definitely someone who's ultimately seeking approval. I know there is still a part of me that when I'm working on the movies and things that I do, it is slightly driven by, "Oh, I hope people still like me." And I think Megamind has a ton of that in him.
J-14: If you were a real life super hero, what would your name be and what would your special power be?
Will: Probably Vegetable Man because a lot of people don't like vegetables, but I would triumph over the hatred of vegetables to show how good they are for you. And my special power would be that I'd be able to puree any sort of vegetable just by looking at them.
J-14: What was it like meeting Justin Bieber and doing "Bieber or Die" with him?
Will: I'm still trying to grow my hair out like him to get that hairstyle. It's tough because I have really curly hair so I'm trying to flat iron it and get that hairdo!
Megamind hits theaters on Friday, November 5.
