Selena Gomez's metamorphosis from Disney child star into international superstar — not forgetting her ascent to reigning champion of Instagram — hasn't been without heartbreak and pain, but her style has yet to suffer a rocky phase. In fact, 2017 has been the year Selena has truly harnessed her own style, and it is one that warrants a serious debriefing. We have broken down Selena's style alphabetically to get to the crux of just what it is that makes her wardrobe tick.

A for Athleisure

Like most of the jet-setting A-list crowd, Selena has mastered airport-chic athleisure: luxe loungewear with a sprinkling of glamour in the form of heels and/or statement shades make for a fail-safe ensemble when out-and-about or traveling.

B for Black

Selena exudes class when she sticks to an unfussy black ensemble. Keeping it simple with clean cut lines and high-quality fabrics contribute to a well-put-together look.

C for Coordination

Whether it's power dressing in a blue denim trouser suit with a crop top, coupling different shades of grey or opting for a checked co-ord, Selena has an eye for coordinating.

D for Date Night Style

Power couple Selena and The Weeknd (aka Able Tesfaye) make sure they schedule in plenty of date nights, and for the occasion Selena's attire is always a step towards sexy: short minis, bare shoulders and boyfriend jackets are on the agenda for a lust-worthy evening.

E for Elevated Smart-Wear

Tailoring and crisp cuts should never go amiss, at least according to Miss Gomez who sports day-to-day outfits to the smartest degree.

F for Fuschia

Selena was spotted in New York in June wearing a fuschia pink, embroidered romper-esque jumpsuit by Miu Miu. Perhaps one of her boldest fashion statement to date?

G for Giorgio Armani

Selena has stepped onto red carpets wearing Giorgio Armani a number of times, but our favorite was at the AMA's in 2014. She wore a custom blush gown by Giorgio Armani to perform her hit song "The Heart Wants What It Wants" (a particularly memorable performance because of its emotional connotations of her on-again, off-again romance with Justin Bieber), and for the red carpet she opted for a backless black Armani Prive gown — one of our favorite ever looks of hers.

H for Hollywood Glamour

As attested in 'G', Selena is no stranger to a red carpet, thanks to growing up in the spotlight. While it must be a walk in the park by now, Selena hasn't stopped experimented with different styles over the years, and evolved gracefully into the ultimate Hollywood glamazon.

I for Investment Pieces

While Selena doesn't shy away from high street brands, she definitely treats herself to designer pieces. Some designers she has sported recently include Coach, Galvan, Balenciaga and Miu Miu.

J for Jeans

Selena knows how to dress for her body, and luckily for her she looks amazing in flared, cropped and bell bottom jeans (mostly high-waisted). She pairs her jeans with heels and a crop/tank top for the ultimate chic, model-off-duty look.

K for Kate Young

With the help of her stylist Kate Young — whose clientele also includes Sienna Miller, Natalie Portman, Dakota Johnson and Margot Robbie — Selena has curated a style that is oh-so on point.

L for Long Coats

If there's one redeeming factor about winter, it's being able to swaddle yourself in piles of knitwear and oversized coats, and Selena's selection of long coats have already inspired our next season wardrobe.

M for Met Gala

Selena has attended four Met Galas and counting: 'Charles James: Beyond Fashion' (2014); 'China: Through The Looking Glass' (2015); 'Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology' (2016); and 'Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between' (2017). It is clear to see how Selena's style trajectory has gone from understated to more daring, and while this year's look was more 'pretty perfect' than 'all-out wacky', she still made it onto our best dressed round-up.

N for Natural Beauty

Selena is nothing if not a natural gem. She is often spotted fresh faced — a slick of mascara and lip stick is all she needs — with her lustrous locks hanging wherever they fall.

O for Orange

Orange seems to be the color du jour for Selena. She has been wearing the shade more and more late, whether placing the color as the focal point of an ensemble or just incorporating pops of the shade into an outfit.

P for Printed Dresses

Pretty dresses abound in Selena's wardrobe, but recently her selection of pattern dresses has surpassed all of her previous day-to-day looks.

Q for Queen of Instagram

It's near impossible to talk about Selena without mentioning her Instagram success. Earlier this year she teased her 123 million followers with a polaroid-style photo of her shorter hairdo. The bob haircut was a drastic step away from her usual long dark locks fit for a Disney princess, but with her hair transformation Selena suggested she is still evolving her style as she grows, and is on to bigger ventures.

R for Red Red Red

Without question, Selena's color is red. She wore a red Christian Dior dress to the Rudderless premiere in 2014, and was a princess in a red Prada dress at the AMA's last year when collecting an award and delivering a heartfelt speech about her battle with her mental health.

S for Slip Dresses

Selena has an appetite for subtly sexy pieces, and often gravitates towards sultry silk slip dresses – mostly by Galvan – not just for an evening look but in the daytime, too.

T for Tinted Glasses

Selena is seldom seen not rocking sunglasses, but this year's retro redux has meant she has been reaching for sunnies with tinted lenses. She also prefers smaller lenses instead of oversized sunnies.

U for Utilitarian

Selena has rocked utilitarian-style jumpsuits and dresses this year, which has contributed to a more mature style.

V for Victoria's Secret

She may have not been modeling lingerie, but Selena stole the VS show in 2015 when she performed "Hands to Myself" and "Me and My Girls" — girl squad in tow, naturally.

W for Wet Look

Wet look trousers might not be in everyone's capsule wardrobe, but Selena wears them well in colder seasons by pairing them with knit sweaters to elevate a casual, cozy look.

X for XS Tops

Crop tops are a staple in Selena's wardrobe, both day-to-day and for evening wear. Pair your flared jeans, leggings, trackies or long skirt with an XS top for that something extra.

Y for Yellow

Selena has a current penchant for dopamine dressing this season, opting for bright colors, especially yellows. Her aesthetic for her new album is a dramatic departure from her more vampy, sexy style of her past album, Revival. The Selena of late is sporting a more delicate look with diaphanous materials in yellow shades to complement the hazy, sun-kissed visuals of her 'Fetish' music video (she wore a yellow Simone Rocha Floral Frill Embroidered dress from the Spring 2017 Collection). Evidently, modesty dressing is very on trend this summer.

Z for Zara

Selena is not averse to high street labels, especially everyone's favorite Spanish brand, Zara. She has been reported to be wearing the label on numerous occasions, particularly Zara jackets.
