After months of silence, Tom Hiddleston is opening up about his relationship with Taylor Swift and why what they had was the real deal.

Their relationship shocked fans as the pair was caught kissing on the beaches of Rhode Island just weeks after Taylor and Calvin Harris called it quits. Ever since then, Hiddleswift was inseparable. They traveled together, he hung out with her friends, she went to visit his family and they had an epic Fourth of July party.

As quick as the romance started, it ended just as fast. The rumors were rampant about what really happened and whether or not it was all for publicity. Months later, Tom has finally opened up about the whole thing. He talked about how their love wasn’t fake and the story behind his ‘I ❤️️ T.S.’ shirt.

Tom sat down with GQ to discuss other things but the conversation turned towards the “Bad Blood” singer, naturally. He said, “Taylor is an amazing woman. She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time. Of course, it was real.”

Tom insisted that they both just wanted a regular relationship but because of their status, it became impossible. “I only know the woman I met. She’s incredible. A relationship in the limelight… A relationship always takes work. A relationship in the limelight takes work. And it’s not just the limelight. It’s everything else. So we decided to go out for dinner, we decided to travel.”

To be honest, this is kind of upsetting.

As for the notorious tank top, Tom explained, “The truth is, it was the Fourth of July and a public holiday and we were playing a game and I slipped and hurt my back. And I wanted to protect the graze from the sun and said, ‘Does anyone have a T-shirt?’ And one of her friends said, ‘I’ve got this.’ And we all laughed about it. It was a joke.”

While Tom probably did love Taylor, it’s important to see that the T-shirt wasn’t as big of a deal as it was made out to be. Tom even confessed to GQ that he was shocked at how many people picked up on it because, on that day, it was just a joke.

It just goes to show that he should probably think twice about professing his love for a future girlfriend on a t-shirt. Fans will always be there to call it out!
