'13 Reasons Why' Star Brandon Larracuente Talks Death Scene

If you haven't heard of 13 Reasons Why then you must live on another planet because Netflix's most popular show EVER is taking the world by storm.

By now, most of us know that 13 Reasons Why follows the story of Hannah Baker, played the Katherine Langford, who decides to end her life after being viciously bullied. She leaves 13 tapes for 13 people that came into and out of her life who ultimately had a part in her suicide. As fans anxiously await for a season 2 announcement, more actors who played the beloved characters on the series are speaking up about what it was like to work on the show and what it was like to play their characters.

Brandon Larracuente, who plays the school jock Jeff Atkins chatted with Seventeen about his experience and it is seriously eye-opening. He said of landing the role, "It was a pretty lengthy one. I had auditioned originally for the role of Justin Foley. I sent in a self-tape from my home in Florida. I flew out to California shortly after for unrelated stuff and just happened to receive a callback while I was already in California. I went in and they brought me back several times after that. At the final callback, they offered me the role of Jeff, who isn't a character in the book."

Because Brandon's character was written into the series he didn't have to abide by certain guidelines or live up to the expectations people had for the character who read the book. But, what he did have to do was deal with his character's death.

For any seasoned actor, that's not an easy feat.

He said, "Actually, I knew from the first day I began filming. They told me his fate, unfortunately. At first, I didn't know how to feel about it, but then after a while, I was like, 'I have every episode to make a positive impact.' I just try to look at it in a positive way and every character on this show serves a purpose. I made sure my character severed his purpose before his unfortunate accident."

Of course, the scene was really hard to watch. But, Brandon put into perspective about how hard it was to actually film the whole thing.

He revealed, "It was, considering all I had to do was really lay there. It was tough. Every time we would film, Dylan (Clay) would run up to the car and he would have to come up to the car and react. And his performance — I would get chills. It was hard not react to. So we had to do it over and over. It was hard to see myself looking back on the monitor after a few takes. Honestly, it taught me a lesson. It taught me to never take a risk like that. Drinking and driving is never okay because life is so short."

Brandon continued, "I think the episode where I passed away, Clay was like, 'See you Monday?' and I looked at him and said, 'Yeah,' absolutely not knowing that that was the last time I'd see him. So it's hard. Dylan gave a performance and being a part of it — it definitely gave me chills then and watching it now. My mom told me, 'I never want to see you like that.' Spoken like a true mom."

Brandon mentions Dylan's incredible performance but if we do say so ourselves, Brandon gave us chills as well!
