According to the U.K.'s Evening Standard, Daniel, 27, was out and about in London’s Chelsea neighborhood when he noticed that the unidentified tourist was struggling on the street and had a gash on his face.
"The victim — a man aged in his 50s — was walking in the road when two people riding a moped snatched his bag before riding off,” police officials said in a statement. “The victim suffered a cut to the face during the incident.”
Daniel’s rep confirmed the ordeal to Fox News, but did not provide further comment because “it’s a police matter.” According to the outlet, the two assailants left the scene on mopeds with the tourist’s Louis Vuitton bag in their possession.
David Videcette, a former London police officer, told the Evening Standard that he saw Daniel consoling the victim not long after the attack. "It was a bit of the surreal moment, I said, 'You're Daniel Radcliffe,’ and he replied, 'I am,’" David told the publication. "He was a really nice bloke, a lot of stars wouldn’t have stopped to help. The victim was very, very shaken up.”
London police are currently investigating the incident. As of yet, no arrests have been made. While sharing his account, David also noted that he saw the thieves circling the area before they found their target.
“They grappled with [the victim] on the pavement. He wasn’t going to give up the bag willingly. I tried to ram [one of the the thieves’ bikes] with my car, but I wasn’t able to,” the retired cop recounted. “They slashed him in the face with the knife and made off down the King’s Road. I tried to follow them but I lost them as they were jumping red lights.”
