Some Drake fans are convinced that the rapper just addressed the controversy surrounding his friendship with Millie Bobby Brown and Billie Eilish in one of his newly released tracks. The 33-year-old surprised fans and dropped two new songs on Saturday, February 29 — called “When To Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle” — and upon their release, some listeners noticed one line of lyrics that seemingly referred to the backlash Drake has received for his friendship with the two young stars.
For those who missed it, both Billie and Millie have revealed publicly that they received text messages from Drake in the past. At the time, social media users claimed it was “creepy” and “weird” for a man in his 30s to be texting girls so much younger than him. Both Billie and Millie have spoken out and defended their friendship with the rap star.
“Everybody’s so sensitive,” Billie told Vogue in February 2020. “A grown man can’t be a fan of an artist? There are so many people that the internet should be more worried about. Like, you’re really going to say that Drake is creepy because he’s a fan of mine… What the f**k is that s**t?”
Drake had not spoken out about his controversial friendships, until now, it seems. In his song “When To Say When,” the rapper referenced the late Michael Jackson. In 2019, ten years after his death, the singer was accused of sexually abusing minors at his home in California.
Drake’s lyrics read, “Michael Jackson s**t, but the palace is not for kids.”
Fans immediately associated this to the rapper’s situation with Millie and Billie.
“Is Drake really going to bring up Michael Jackson in this song after the s**t with MBB and Billie? Is that intentional or?” one fan asked. Another added, “Drake really had to say ‘Michael Jackson [s**t], but the palace is not for kids’ to compensate for the Millie Bobby Brown incident.”
Drake has yet to confirm or deny if the song lyric was in reference to his friendship with Millie and Billie.
