Hey Glee fans, we have some pretty exciting news for you! Lea Michele just shared the details of her upcoming Christmas album, and it turns out, a few of her former costars will be featured on it! Get ready to bring on all the feels because the cast members just reunited to record some new tunes, and we can’t wait to hear their voices together again!
So the album is called Christmas in the City and it drops October 25. The actress will cover a ton of holiday classics on it, including “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Silent Night,” “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” and Frozen‘s “Do you Want to Build a Snowman?” Jonathan Groff, who we all know played Jessie in the Fox series, will join her on the song “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” while Darren Criss, who starred as Blaine, will sing on “White Christmas.” Broadway star Cynthia Erivo will also join the brunette beauty for a duet of “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
“Jonathan is my best friend in the entire world, and the song we’re singing on the record, ‘I’ll Be Home for Christmas,’ we’ve been singing together for over 10 years. We would often have to do Christmas benefits and stuff like that in New York so that song in particular has very special meaning to us,” the singer told People Magazine. “Darren and I are dear friends so it was only natural that I would have him come on the record with me. My third very special guest is the incredible Cynthia Erivo, and if you don’t know Cynthia, you’re going to know her soon. She is incredible, and all of these singers — Darren, Jonathan and Cynthia — are all Broadway performers, and it was also really important to me that the sound of this record had that Broadway feeling. Because again, it’s New York, it’s Broadway, it’s my history.”
The 33-year-old, who married her boyfriend Zandy Reich on March 9, explained that “it’s a very happy time in my life with my family right now, so making this album and releasing it at this time in my life just made so much sense.”
“It was always my dream to make a Christmas record,” she continued. “Christmas is so special to me. It’s such an important time of year for me and my family that I have so many incredible memories from.”
There will also be an original song on the album, called “Christmas in New York.”
“I wrote this song as my real love letter,” she revealed. “It’s the anthem of the album, and it just highlights all of the special things New York has to offer. It paints this beautiful picture of New York, but it also is really about what it means to be with your family and friends and engaged in that holiday spirit.”
