During the first episode of her YouTube docuseries, The Secret Life Of Lele Pons, social media sensation Lele Pons opened up about her mental health struggles and her “severe” OCD, Tourette syndrome, depression and ADHD diagnoses.
Throughout the 26-minute video, the 23-year-old sat down and got candid about her lifelong struggles with her diagnoses and how they’ve impacted her over the years. The songstress also referred to her ODC as her “deepest, darkest secret” and, at the time, revealed she wasn’t ready to publicly share her fight with the disorder. Not only did fans hear from Lele herself, but her parents and doctors as well, who opened up about how the disease has effected her and touched on her symptoms and treatments. According to the Mayo Clinic, OCD “features a pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears (obsessions) that lead you to do repetitive behaviors (compulsions).”
During one emotional scene, Lele looked back at a clip from her time in a treatment center when her OCD “got really bad.”
“I don’t want it to get like that anymore,” she told viewers. “When you have a condition that controls you most of the time, you wish you didn’t have that.”
Along with the hardships she’s suffered due to dealing with the mental illness, Lele also revealed that she disappeared for a month to seek treatment for her OCD.
“Sometimes my fans don’t even notice when I’m gone. I have things accumulated, like content, but I’ve been to a ranch for a month without anyone [knowing],” the YouTuber told Entertainment Tonight during a recent interview. “When it’s really bad or when there’s a really big project coming, that might trigger a lot of my stuff, I go there to prepare myself.”
While talking with the publication, Lele also said that she felt now was the best time to share her diagnoses with the world and her followers because, “I’m not ashamed and embarrassed about having OCD.”
