For the past few weeks, fans have gotten an inside look into the life of Lele Pons with her YouTube docuseries, The Secret Life Of Lele Pons. Not only has the social media star opened up about her mental health struggles and relationship with her father, but now, in the most recent episode, she spoke out about what it’s like to suffer from Tourette’s syndrome.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “Tourette syndrome is a disorder that involves repetitive movements or unwanted sounds (tics) that can’t be easily controlled.” During an emotional scene with her therapist, Lele revealed that she was “embarrassed” because her tics were being filmed.
“Lele has become an expert at hiding her tics, so people that didn’t know she has tics would not notice them because she incorporates them in her movements,” her therapist, Dr. Katia Moritz, told viewers. “Her snaps and he stretches look like part of her normal interactions when in reality they are tics.”
Later on in the episode, one of her team members attended her therapy session, and the 23-year-old told him that she’s “ashamed of having tics.”
Her therapist explained that sometimes, her OCD symptoms “connect with the tic, so it becomes much more complex.” For those who missed it, in an earlier episode, Lele got candid about her lifelong struggles with OCD and how it has impacted her over the years. The songstress also referred to it as her “deepest, darkest secret” and, at the time, revealed she wasn’t ready to publicly share her fight with the disorder.
During the last scene of the episode, after showing her tics for the first time, Lele told her therapist, “I’m motivated to get better, I don’t want to continue like this.”
