Selena Gomez is receiving a ton of buzz for the Netflix show she executive produced called 13 Reasons Why, and now she and the cast are getting even more attention for the meaningful way they honored the series over the weekend. Selena was joined by Tommy Dorfman (who plays Ryan Shaver) and Alisha Boe (who plays Jessica Davis) to get some matching forearm tattoos to celebrate this project they’re so very proud of.

After Selena took to Instagram to show off the tattoo process, she and the others shared a few meaningful posts to remember the fabulous day they shared.

“Wish the rest of the crew was with us today. Overwhelmed with the response and love @13reasonswhy is receiving. Thank you to each beautiful person who has watched and talked about the message of our show,” Selena captioned the photo – which shows her posing in front of the 13 Reasons Why billboard with Tommy and Alisha.

The stars got semicolon designs, as the symbol has come to represent mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Alisha took to Instagram to explain the meaning behind the simple designs in the caption of the photo she posted to Instagram.

“I have received so much love and support from all of you who are watching 13 Reasons Why. Today- Tommy, Selena and I got tattoos of a semicolon. Project semicolon is a movement dedicated to presenting hope for those suffering from depression, thoughts of suicide, addiction, and self-injury. Those of you watching 13 Reasons Why and identify with Hannah Baker, please check out Beyond The Reasons on netflix, or check out the link in my bio. Rest In Peace Amy Bluel, who started this movement. Love you all❤❤ (thx @ktal77 and @joymaryro for the inspo?),” Alisha wrote, tagging two 13 Reasons Why producers.

Tommy also posted a photo of the final products, which he paired with a super in-depth caption explaining why they chose to get semicolon designs.

“Today was a magical day. Another day to be grateful to be alive. Alisha, Selena, and I went together to get ; tattoos. The ; symbol stands for an end of one thought and a beginning of another. Instead of a period, authors use the semicolon to continue a sentence. For us, it means a beginning of another chapter in life, in lieu of ending your life. I struggled with addiction and depression issues through high school and early college. I reached out and asked for help. At the time, I thought my life was over, I thought I’d never live past the age of 21. Today I’m grateful to be alive, in this new chapter of life in recovery, standing with my colleagues and friends, making art that helps other people. If you’re struggling, if you feel suicidal, I urge you to click the link in my bio. Ask for help. Start a new chapter with the support of others. ?⛅️?☀️and RIP Amy Bleul, who started the semicolon movement,” the actor wrote.

Even though Selena wasn’t a part of the cast, she truly put her heart into the series. In a recent interview, Selena opened up about the challenges she faced while bringing Jay Asher’s book to life. Turns out, there was a reason she didn’t want to be in the show herself.

“A book is frightening for me because I know the cult following it has, which is the reason why I didn’t want to be in it. Originally, my mom and I found the project because I wanted it to be a transition piece. From that point on, a lot of people wanted to make it something that it wasn’t. It can teeter on the line of being a little too preachy. Jay knew that my mom [exec producer Mandy Teefey] and I would be behind it for years, no matter how long it took to take it to that place,” the singer said.

It warms our hearts that Selena got so close with the cast that she actually got matching tattoos with them. There’s no doubt in our minds that creating this Netflix series truly meant the world to both her and the rest of the cast.
