We know you probably have to get back to listening to Ariana Grande‘s new album on repeat, but before you do, you should know that Thank U, Next isn’t the only thing the singer’s released recently.
That’s right! Along with her new LP, she dropped a music video for one of the most highly anticipated songs on the album, called “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored.” But wait, there’s more. The music video stars none other than Riverdale‘s Charles Melton.
In case you couldn’t guess from listening to the song, the flirty track is seemingly about the “God Is a Woman” singer wanting the guy she’s interested in to break up with his girlfriend so that she could be with him instead. However, the music video comes with a major plot twist, and when we watched it we were SHOOK.
For majority of the video, it really seems like Ariana and Charles are forming a strong love connection, despite the fact that he’s dating someone else. And honestly, we were kind of rooting for the two to get together since the second the video started playing.
Throughout the music video, which is just over three minutes long, Ari and the Riverdale actor lock eyes in a club, chat at a bar and ultimately wind up at a house party. What you may not have realized, though, is that the 28-year-old isn’t the object of Ariana’s affection at all, and that she was actually crushing on the girlfriend all along. We told you there’s a plot twist!
By the end of the video, it becomes clear that the woman in the video was the focal point the whole time, and even though if you didn’t pick up on all the clues until you watched it a second time around, we personally love that the “No Tears Left To Cry” singer decided to switch things up. Sure, we would’ve loved to see things heat up between her and Charles, but we’re also always down for an unexpected ending. Excuse us as we watch this music video 10 times over.
