13 Reasons Why star Tommy Dorfman really made a name for himself during the first season and fans can’t wait to see what he brings to the screen during Season 2. Ever since viewers closely followed the life of Hannah Baker on Netflix’s most popular show ever, they were eager to know more. So eager, in fact, that not filming the second season was out of the question. Fans needed more from the characters. They needed to know more about their lives, their thoughts, and what they wanted for their futures. Viewers needed answers. Tommy is finally giving us those answers.
J-14 exclusively caught up with him at Out magazine’s 25th anniversary celebration at the PH-D Rooftop Lounge at The Dream Downtown in NYC, and he let us in on a few details surrounding the differences between filming the second season compared to the first. Tommy said, “I think just on a personal level, Season 1 was the first job I ever had out of college as an actor. I’ve grown tremendously since then and just continue to learn from everyone I work with. I shot a movie while I was shooting 13 Reasons Why this summer which is really cool, flying from coast to coast, getting to work on two extremely different characters at the same time was such a challenge.”
Can you imagine the first job you get out of college is a role on 13 Reasons Why?! His life has seriously blown up. Tommy and the rest of the 13 Reasons Why cast have become Netflix sensations basically overnight and the work they all did on the show was nothing short of incredible. Looking at what Tommy has done individually shows what kind of work ethic he really has. The fact that he was playing TWO characters for TWO different projects at the same time is actually crazy.
Tommy continued, “I think if anything, having had a show that’s already come out — there’s a certain level of just, our lives changed tremendously. It’s like getting back to work and getting back to that focus takes extra energy, whereas before it was like we were in summer camp together.”
It sounds like he’s saying there is a bit more pressure this time around because the show had such a great response from the start. To be honest, we don’t blame him but we have a feeling Tommy and this cast is doing to deliver exactly what everyone wants in Season 2. As for whether or not Selena Gomez will make an appearance on set this season? He said, “No idea. She’s working in New York right now.”
As we all know, this was Selena’s passion project. She might be working on Woody Allen’s yet to be titled movie in the Big Apple alongside Elle Fanning at the moment, but we wouldn’t be surprised if she finds time to visit Tommy and the rest of the cast. This is her baby, after all.
