You guys might want to brace yourselves because we have some super exciting news for you. Drum roll please… Ariana Greenblatt has just joined the cast of the upcoming Netflix movie Awake! And want to know the best part? She’ll be playing Gina Rodriguez‘s daughter! Wow, talk about an epic duo.
And it turns out, these two stars already have a connection! Gina previously starred in Jane the Virgin alongside Jenna Ortega, who played Ariana’s big sister in Stuck in the Middle. The new flick will also star Frances Fisher, Shamier Anderson, Finn Jones, Lucius Hoyos, Barry Pepper, and Jennifer Jason Leigh.
So what’s is about, you ask? Well, according to Netflix, here’s what will go down. After a sudden event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep, chaos quickly stars to ensue. But Jill (that’s Gina!), an ex-soldier with a troubled past, discovers that her daughter (that’s Ariana!) may have the cure. The only question is, can she safely deliver her daughter and save the world before she herself loses her mind?
OMG. How exciting does that sound?! And get this, you guys — this isn’t the only upcoming flick that they’re starring in together! Yep, it was announced back in May that Ariana and Gina are both appearing in the upcoming Scooby Doo movie, titled Scoob. Gina will voice Velma in the animated film, while Ariana will play a younger version of the infamous character. Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Will Forte, Tracy Morga and Pierce Gagnon — the 13-year-old from Twin Peaks — will also appear in the flick. It’s set to hit theaters on May 15, 2020, and we can’t wait!
As for Awake, there’s unfortunately no release date for it yet, but production is already underway. This movie sounds like it’s seriously going to be so good, and we are so excited to see it!
